Great West Life donates to the Spirit of Christmas

On Wednesday September 26th the official cheque was handed over from Great West Life to Trinity Western University marking Great West Life's participation in the 2007 Spirit of Christmas as title sponsor.

The Spirit of Christmas, taking place at Trinity Western University from November 29 to December 1st, is a community focused celebration that features concerts by local school groups and community performers, Christmas craft sales, an outdoor theatrical nativity presentation with live animals, and a variety of activities for children and adults. Positioned as the kick-off event to Christmas in the Valley - an extensive television, radio and print cross-marketing campaign aimed at promoting and positioning the Fraser Valley as a Christmas destination for lower mainland families - the University estimates that 10,000 people will make their way to the campus this year.

On hand to receive this special contribution was Senior Vice President of External Relations, Mr. Ron Kuehl. "We are thrilled with the support we have received from Great West Life. Not only have they caught our vision for this special Christmas celebration, but we appreciate their commitment to building community and support of this significant event that celebrates the essence of the Christmas season - something we are both united in," says Kuehl.

Great West Life is no stranger to supporting the community. As one of Canada's leading insurers, the company also has a keen interest in helping build and foster stronger communities through their involvement with volunteerism and donations that focus on support for arts and culture, health and wellness, education and other social and civic projects. Supporting TWU's efforts in The Spirit of Christmas was a natural fit for the company.

"Great-West Life is pleased to partner with Trinity Western University and support this year's Spirit of Christmas event. We see this as a great opportunity to support the work of one of Fraser Valley's leading institutions and participate in a great community event," says David Nelson, Great West Life's Regional Manager.

With this year's event expanding from two to three days, and with more concerts and activities being planned this year than last, securing capable volunteers is a big task. Michael Wipf, Producer of the Spirit of Christmas, couldn't be happier with Great West Life's participation again this year. Says Wipf, "We are very pleased to have Great West Life as the title sponsor of the 2007 Spirit of Christmas. Not only is their financial contribution integral to the event's success but they have also supported us in the past by providing much needed volunteers, something we are extremely grateful for."
