Langley, BC.-The public is invited to attend an open house at the Bellingham extension campus of Trinity Western University Thursday, November 8th between 3 and 7 p.m.. This is the first time that TWU officials are opening their doors for a special showing of the collegium style classroom, student study lounge and offices, located in the Blossoms Commons Building at 134 Kellogg Road.
The unique programs offered through TWU Bellingham are called "accelerated adult degree completion programs" and are designed and customized to the individual. Taught by professors from the main campus in Canada as well as faculty in the Bellingham area, adult learners receive the highest quality of education in the fields of Social Sciences and Psychology. Students attend the extension campus along with 15-20 other adult learners, otherwise known as "cohorts." This community of cohorts travel together from course to course until their degree is completed making the experience relational as well. While most study is faced to face in the classroom, students also supplement their studies with online learning and field study practicums.
Earlier this year TWU unveiled plans for the extension campus which was enthusiastically received by many at a formal information breakfast. This fall classes began in psychology and sociology.
Director of TWU Bellingham, Dr. Dan Sanford says, "We look forward to the public open house as it signals the official start of what is becoming a very significant educational program for adults offered by TWU in Washington State. We are blazing a trail for TWU as we develop degree completion and long term operations in the United States. Also, for the first time we are providing faith based instruction in an area that has not had this kind of private, values based education available to it."
For the second year in a row Trinity Western University received an A+ for highest quality of education by the Canada's national newspaper, the Globe and Mail. With that same quality of education the Bellingham campus plans to increase course selection and add bachelor degree programs. Bellingham program instructors and representatives from the University's main campus in Langley will be on hand at the open house that will also include a career advising corner for its program in Human Services, radio broadcast by KGMI, refreshments, door prizes, and games for kids.
This is the first extension campus in the US by Trinity Western University. Other satellite campuses include The Laurentian Leadership Centre in Ottawa which specializes in political science and the Salt Spring Island campus which is an ecological field study area for natural science research. The Washington extension campus is located in Blossom Commons, 143 W. Kellogg Road in Bellingham. More information can be found by visiting www.twu.ca/bellingham or by calling 360-527-0222.
