Family a focus at this year’s Spirit of Christmas

Horse and carriage rides are a favorite at the Great West Life Spirit of Christmas.

While some are rolling their eyes at Christmas decorations for sale in stores well before Halloween has happened, organizers at Trinity Western University are in the thick of things gearing up for the 3rd annual Spirit of Christmas and the thousands of visitors the event will see.

In its first year, the Spirit of Christmas saw close to 4000 visitors participate in the festivities and last year the event saw close to 10,000 guests make their way to the Langley campus.

Event Producer Michael Wipf says, "With the success of last year's Spirit of Christmas celebration, we are planning this year's event with family as a key focus. We are pulling together an array of family entertainment, new surprises, new groups and more family oriented activities than ever SOC-MEIChoir-4x6before."

And this year TWU will once again receive a helping hand from Great West Life. The insurance firm has agreed to be title sponsor of the event for 2008 and 2009 ensuring that the Spirit of Christmas can continue to see success and continue to be free of charge.

Trinity Western University's Executive Director of Business Development Andry Tjahyana says, "We are very grateful for Great West Life's support and continued vision for the Spirit of Christmas. They share in our goal of offering a great event that can be enjoyed by so many in our community. Great West Life has been a proud partner with TWU on this project since it started and we are looking forward to working with them in the many years to follow."

The Great West Life Spirit of Christmas will take place this year on November 28th and 29th. As the kick off event to Christmas in the Valley, an extensive community partnership aimed at making Langley a Christmas destination for events for families in the Fraser Valley, the Spirit of Christmas offers a wide array of activities such as concerts by talented local and international artists, a children's activity centre, a craft sale, carolers, an outdoor theatrical presentation and a petting zoo. Attendees can also enjoy hot apple cider and refreshments as they wander through the campus taking in the beautiful lightSOC-SoulGospelChoirLeader-4x6 displays.
