TWU hosts Corporate Social Responsibility Forum

TWU will host "How to CSR" on October 23.

It's a new acronym being thrown about in corporate circles. It's the buzz word in boardrooms and bantered about in business blogs. And it's what more and more shareholders are demanding - that "CSR" or corporate social responsibility be on the agenda. This movement among industry leaders has CEO's thinking beyond the bottom line and into the communities in which their businesses thrive. On Thursday, October 23, Trinity Western University will join with community partners like The Keg, Great West Life, Langley Advance, Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce, The Salvation Army, Envision Financial and Joytv 10 to engage in a discussion on corporate social responsibility simply titled "How to CSR."

The morning forum will feature keynote speaker and prominent entrepreneur George Tidball. The founder of The Keg Steakhouse and Bar, which now has an empire of over 93 restaurants spread across Canada and the US, will speak of his experiences and the business practices that have earned the Keg Restaurants the reputation of being one of the "50 Best Employers in Canada" (Report on Business magazine). Tidball also brought the first McDonalds to Canada in the 1960's.

The event will also hear from members of a community panel as they discuss the length that corporations should go to be accountable to their community, how to become corporately responsible, and the various definitions of CSR.

Trinity Western University's Executive Director of Business Development Andry Tjahyana says, "We are really enthusiastic about hosting the inaugural CSR forum. There are many great opportunities in the Fraser Valley where corporate social responsibility initiatives can have significant impact in our local communities. We are looking forward to fresh ideas that will be generated from these discussions as there are many successful and significant businesses where we live."

The event is open to business leaders and the public. Tickets are $95.00 and can be purchased from the Langley Chamber of Commerce with proceeds going to the Salvation Army Gateway of Hope. A continental breakfast will be provided and guests will receive a complimentary copy of "Entrepreneurial Leaders IV."
