On September 17, 2005, TWU and ACTS seminaries launched the Septuagint Institute—a hub for Septuagint research, including various translation and publication projects…
…the Septuagint Institute serves as a base from which to coordinate research resources, specific learning initiatives, scholarly colloquia, symposia geared to the larger university/seminary communities and the general public, applications for research funding, and publication projects.

In 2008 the Rev. John William Wevers, ThD, Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto, donated some 3,000 volumes from his extensive personal library to the Institute. A linguist and renowned Septuagint scholar, Wevers once taught and mentored TWU’s own Rob Hiebert, Ph.D., Professor of Old Testament Studies and Director of the Septuagint Institute. Wevers passed away in 2010, and in the Spring of 2011, Hiebert received a generous donation from the Wevers family for the endowment of the Septuagint Institute, which was renamed in Wevers' honour.
