Biography

Larry is a graduate of Simon Fraser University and became a Chartered Accountant in 1974.

He worked in industry and public practice for many years before eventually transitioning into the not- for-profit sector. Active in local politics, he was elected to the Coquitlam School Board in the1980’s and served as a trustee for three terms. A life-long interest in affordable housing let to his work with several not for profit organizations: the BC Non-Profit Housing Association, Monarch Place Transitional Housing for women with children fleeing domestic abuse, and the New Hope Community Services Society, which provides refuge housing.

For several years Larry served as Board Chair for the Canadian Council of Christian Charities and currently serves on the Leadership Advisory Council for Trinity Western University’s School of Business. Larry worked with the Baptist Housing Ministries Society for 13 years as its Chief Executive Officer and retired from that position in 2007. During his association with the organization Larry assisted in the creation of retirement housing for over 1,800 seniors in communities throughout BC. Today he continues to serve on a number of boards including as Chair of the Board of Governors of Northwest Baptist Seminary.

Larry is currently a Senior Associate with the executive search firm Hutchinson Group Inc. which focuses on the not for profit sector and has offices in Vancouver, Toronto and Ottawa.  Larry’s particular focus is on the faith based charity sector. He also assists boards in conducting organization, policy and program reviews and board governance consulting in the areas of strategic planning, best board practices and succession planning.
