Human Resource Management

Despite todays technologies, people are still the centre of an organization. From its president to an entry-level employee, a business success rides on the vision, direction, and spirit that its employees provide. In the human resource management (HRM) program at TWU, you'll learn how to: motivate employees, create empowering work environments, develop and implement policies and procedures, design the structure of an organization, and plan for the workforce of the future.

What is my career potential?

Every business--small or large, public or private, for-profit or not-for profit knows the importance of attracting, developing, and retaining talented employees. The completion of the HRM specialization will open the door if you are interested in becoming a general manager in an organization, or a human resource specialist for an HR department.

In addition to foundational business classes, the following courses will help you develop the skill-set unique to the human resources field.

• BUSI 352 Human Resource Management I
• BUSI 363 Organizational Design and Development

Plus one of the following:

• BUSI 353 Human Resource Management II
• BUSI 446 Commercial Legal Relations
• BUSI 490 Integrated Consulting Project

If you're planning to become an HR professional and obtain the Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) designation in Canada or Professional in Human Resources (PHR) in the U.S., we recommend that you take all the elective courses in this specialization.
