RUSS 101, 102 Introduction to Russian (3, 3 sem. hrs.)
An introduction to the Russian language and culture. Basic skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking are taught, as well as various aspects of life and culture in countries where Russian is spoken.
NB: Higher levels may be offered by directed study.
Prerequisite(s): None for 101; RUSS 101 is a prerequisite to 102. (3-1; 3-1)
RUSS 210 Selected Themes in Russian Literature (3 sem. hrs.)
Introduces important themes in Russian literature through the study of representative works taught in translation. Main emphasis is on prose fiction (novels, short stories, fairy tales) although poetry may be included. Selections are analyzed with a view to showing the literary styles they represent and the theological and philosophical ideas they express. Where relevant, broader historical and cultural aspects of the Russian and Soviet world are surveyed.

Prerequisite(s): ENGL 103, 104; or RUSS 101, 102; or 6 sem. hrs. of Modern Language literature courses; or instructor's consent. (3-0 or 3-0)
