Biography
Dr. Barb Astle recently joined the School of Nursing, Trinity Western University. Most recently, Dr. Astle was an Assistant Professor, School of Nursing, Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta. Dr. Astle has clinical, teaching, research and consulting experiences in a variety of global contexts. Currently, she is involved in the development of global health competencies for nursing students and faculty, exploring the introduction of global citizenship into the undergraduate nursing curricula, and exploring career pathways in Global Health. As well, she is co-editor for the 5th edition of the Potter & Perry, Canadian Fundamental of Nursing textbook. Her program of research focuses on partnering with local and international agencies to build capacity for sustainable change, immigrant health, and the development of programs for the homeless population in Canada and South Africa.
Dr. Astle had held leadership roles in national organizations in global health. Currently, she is the Past Chair for the Canadian Society of International Health (CSIH), founding member for the Canadian Association for International Nurses (CAIN), and Alberta Global Health Interest Group (AGHIG), member for the Canadian Coalition for Global Health Researchers (CCGHR), and Global Nursing Leadership Reference Group (GNLRG) for Canada.
