Doris Hutton Auxier is a U.S. born Canadian painter, who lives and works in the town of Fort Langley, near Vancouver, British Columbia. Auxier has lived and worked in Chicago, Tucson and Princeton, New Jersey where she gave birth to 3 children who are now working as a lawyer, a writer and a visual artist. RECENT WORK: Ms. Auxier's work deals with dignity and banality found in everyday objects. It has been said of her work, "Auxier unravels the surfaces of the material world to take the viewer into the energy and the life beyond the natural." Her paintings and drawings are represented in over 40 public and private collections. Auxier's recent work centers on the vulnerable and protected site, the Langley Bog. Auxier received permission from Metro Vancouver Regional Parks to enter the site and conduct her visual and cultural research. The first exhibition of this work was presented by The Pacific Parklands Foundation, Derby Reach / Brae Island Parks Association and Metro Vancouver and was held at the Fort Gallery in August 2009. Auxier is currently working on a second body of work that also includes the Colony Farms environment in British Columbia. An additional longstanding interest for Auxier is the loss and attempts to regain imagination and art in North American protestant churches. Auxier's work centering on faith and art was chosen for the CIVA sponsored international show at Gordon College, Highly Favored: Contemporary Images of the Virgin Mary, juried by Terrance E. Dempsey, S.J. Director of the Museum of Contemporary Religious Art. Her work on art and faith also was selected for inclusion in The Next Generation: Contemporary Expressions of Faith at the Museum of Biblical Art in New York City, and her work was documented in Patricia C. Pongracz' and Wayne Roosa's book on that exhibit, The Next Generation, 2005. Auxier is involved with community based art initiatives and often exhibits with an artist collective based in Fort Langley, British Columbia.
