Biography
Robert Caldwell graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Music degree in Percussion. He went on to study Indonesian Gamelan music at SFU and world drumming from various African and North American teachers. Over the years, Robert has developed a special interest in electronic and world music, all of which have enabled him to fuse a wide variety of musical styles and traditions. During the nineties, Robert was commissioned by several dance companies in Vancouver to create scores for many dance performances in which the music would be performed live with both acoustic and electronic instruments. As a classical percussionist, Robert has performed and recorded with the Vancouver and Victoria Symphonies and many local professional chamber and choral ensembles. Robert has also toured Canadian schools for more than a decade with his ensembles, Digital Guise and Percussionworks!, providing children and young adults with educational concerts featuring the world of percussion instruments and the part that electronic music plays in popular culture. In addition to his role as performer, composer, and instructor of percussion at Trinity Western University for over 20 years, he is the Music Coordinator at Douglas College and an instructor of percussion at Kwantlen University College.
