Jens Zimmermann, Ph.D.

Canada Research Chair in Interpretation, Religion and Culture

Born and raised in Germany, Jens Zimmermann immigrated to Canada after completing two years of university in Düsseldorf, Germany, to continue his studies in English and Comparative Literature at the University of British Columbia. He graduated with a B.A. in English, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Comparative Literature in 1997. He is currently a full professor of English and German and was awarded a five-year Canada Research Chair in Interpretation, Religion, and Culture beginning in the fall of 2006. His main research interests are literature (literary theory), philosophy, and theology, and he has published works in all these areas. He has also presented extensively at national and international conferences. He will not be actively engaged in the Modern Language Department while holding his research Chair.
