Part-time Instructor in Spanish
Irene Raymond completed her B.A. in Spanish and English (Secondary Education) at Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky, and her Masters in Family Life Studies (Social Anthropology) at Arizona State University. She later did further graduate studies in Spanish and Latin American Literature at Middlebury College in Vermont and Southern Illinois University. In 2006, she came to Trinity Western University with her husband, Dr. Jonathan Raymond, and began teaching in the Modern Language Department. Before coming to TWU, she taught a wide variety of Spanish courses at the University of Manitoba, from 1999 to 2006. Previous to this, she was Assistant Professor of Modern Languages (1994 to 1999) and department chair (1995 to 1999) at Greenville College, in Greenville Illinois, where she taught Spanish language, literature, and Latin American culture. From 1992 to 1994, she was part-time lecturer at Gordon College, in Wenham, Massachusetts. She has also taught elementary school in Hawaii, and co-founded and directed a parent-participation pre-school for economically distressed families, in the Parks and Recreation Department facilities of the City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii, from 1983-1988. Various positions in volunteer social work and teaching preceded these positions. She has co-authored The Relative Impact of Family and Social Involvement in Chicano Mental Health, with J. S. Raymond and D. Rhoads (American Journal of Community Psychology, 8 (5), 1980.) Irene teaches introductory Spanish at TWU and is the wife of President Jonathan Raymond.
