Offered: Courses
(No Minor or Concentration offered.)
We currently offer courses at the introductory level, although we hope to add further courses in the future. The introductory courses are designed for students with no previous knowledge of either Mandarin or Cantonese. While the emphasis is placed on listening comprehension and conversational practice in these courses, reading and writing skills are also introduced.
Japanese courses are offered at the introductory level, for those with no previous knowledge of the language. Both oral and written skills are developed in these courses, including the use of Japanese characters on the keyboard. Second year courses may be taken by Directed Study with the instructor, for those with some knowledge of Japanese.
Russian courses are also offered at the introductory level. Intermediate level courses may be taken by Directed Study with the instructor. As in the other introductory language courses, the focus is not only on written and oral skills, but also on culture.
