Trinity Western University is pleased to welcome Dr. N. T. Wright, prominent New Testament scholar and Bishop of Durham (Church of England), on November 16-17, 2010, for the Distinguished Lecturer Series. Bishop Wright has authored over 60 books for both scholarly and popular audiences. His particular interest is Jesus and Christian origins.
In addition to speaking to TWU students during several Chapels, Bishop Wright will also be giving a Public Lecture on November 16 and participating in a special, three-hour Symposium with the Faculty of Religious Studies and invited guest scholars on November 17.
The University Distinguished Lecturer Series is designed to introduce students and the general public to some of the most profound Christian thinkers of our time.
In the Symposium, more opportunity is given for engagement, dialogue, and investigation of ideas presented by Bishop Wright, as members of the Department of Religious Studies and invited scholars from across the region respond to Bishop Wright’s work. Plans are under way to collect the presentations from the Symposium into a substantial volume, so that the events of this single day will continue to reverberate long into the future.
Funding is needed for this special project to cover the cost of the Symposium, including the proper hosting of Bishop Wright, the expenses for the guest participants, and the preparation of the book for publication. All along the way, our very own M.A. students will be employed in the process of planning and executing the Symposium, which will be great training for their future careers.
We are looking forward to Bishop Wright’s visit, which we anticipate will be the most important event of 2010. We would covet your prayers for the success of this endeavor and ask for your generous financial contribution. Of course, we would be very delighted to see you at one or more of the events.

Become part of one of the most dynamic Biblical Studies departments in North America. The Master of Arts in Biblical Studies program is a specialized academic program led by expert faculty who prepare students to interpret Scripture and to investigate the major issues that attend biblical studies through critical interpretive methodologies. Students engage with visiting scholars and the best scholarly literature by means of colloquia and department-sponsored seminars and learn to formulate their own written contributions to the scholarly conversations in a style that is both professional and compelling. The addition of Institutes in the areas of the Dead Sea Scrolls and Septuagint studies puts TWU among the finest centres for biblical studies in the world.
Over the course of their study students will eventually specialize in the biblical languages. Faculty and students engage in original research and together critically examine biblical and related primary texts in their original languages and develop the tools necessary for meaningful interpretation. Graduate students study primary texts such as the Hebrew Masoretic text, Greek New Testament, Dead Sea Scrolls, Septuagint, Aramaic targums and rabbinic literature in the original languages as an integral element of their ongoing studies.
The Biblical Studies program is research based and designed to produce students who will excel at doctoral studies and serve in educational and academic contexts around the world. TWU has garnered international recognition for its outstanding graduates who have gone on to pursue doctoral degrees.
