The tuition rate for 2011/2012 is $660/sem hour, or $5,940 for 3 courses/semester. Housing rental information is available at TWU's housing website.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

Application for scholarships may be made on-line beginning November 1 prior to the year of entry at TWU's awards website. The application deadline for graduate scholarships is April 1st. Scholarships cannot be guaranteed for applications received after this date. All scholarships are awarded beginning in the fall semester.

What scholarships are available?

Full-time students (9 semester hours or more) may qualify for the following:

  • TWU Dean’s Scholarships - Graduate Entrance awards of up to $5,000
  • TWU Graduate Scholarships of $500 to $1,500 each
  • TWU Graduate grants of $500 to 1,500 each
  • Research Fellowship of approximately $6,000 to a new or continuing MAIH student. Involves assistance to a professor in research, teaching and administration (available each year) .
  • SSHRC’s graduate fellowship worth $17,500 for specialized humanities students in a research stream (specialized humanities). Entering students graduating from a recognized Canadian University or students planning to return for a year of full time studies are eligible to apply. See SSHRC’s website.

Teaching Assistantships - Updated May 5, 2011

There are several TA ship opportunities for MAIH students who would act as Graduate Learning Coaches for incoming Freshman Academy students.  Freshman Academy is a transition program for high school graduates whose academic record is not sufficient for university admission but who show potential and interest in moving into university level studies.  The program of using graduate student coaches has been a great success.

Applications will be accepted starting May 15, 2011 and will remain open until suitable candidates are found.

Applications consist of a current CV and letter of application sent to Jayne Cummins (Jayne.Cummins@twu.ca).  The letter should include statements regarding your interest in teaching at the university level, any related experience you may have had and evidence that you would be able to cope with the 12 hours a week work load on top of your course work.  These positions are open to students taking a minimum of 6 semester hours per semester with priority given to full time students (9 semester hours).

Positions will begin Sept. 1, 2011.

Requirements for International Students

International students are admitted to the University on the same basis as other students but note the following:

  1. The Canadian Immigration authorities will only grant student visas to full-time students (those taking 9 semester hours). Further information may be acquired from your regional Canadian Consulate or by writing to the Canadian Bureau of International Education, #408-151 Slater Street, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, K1P 5H3.
  2. International students who do not have English as their primary language are required to submit proof of English language competency. A minimum TOEFL score of 620 (260 computer based) or a minimum IELTS score of 7.0 is required. The results are to be sent directly to the University. Information concerning TOEFL may be found at www.toefl.org.
  3. Applicants must provide evidence of sufficient funds to support themselves during the first year of studies before acceptance letters will be sent by the University. All non-Canadian students who reside in BC during the academic year must enrol in the British Columbia Medical Services Plan (BCMSP).
