Late grade submission policy:

  •     Papers and other assignments are due according to the dates outlined in the course syllabus
  •     If extenuating circumstances make it impossible for the student to meet the deadline(s), s/he must seek a request from the course professor in writing.
  •     If the professor agrees with the request, an extension may be granted but the extension period may not go beyond the end of the following semester (i.e., within four months of the end of the course)
  •     If the paper is not completed by the revised date, the professor is obligated to submit the course grade to the registrar, factoring in ‘0’ for the papers in question
  •     If the extenuating circumstances have continued and prevented the completion of the paper, a further extension may be granted only by the program director.

Leave of Absence Policy:

Each semester a student who is not taking a course(s) must request in writing for a leave of absence to the Director.  This letter should include the date when course(s) are expected to resume.  A student may be granted a leave of absence twice; however, after that time a meeting with the Director and Stream Coordinator would be required to discuss plans for continuation in the program.

This policy is not intended to remove flexibility for students but is designed to ensure that good communication occurs and that academic advising is sought.

Thesis Continuation Status Registration:

With the exception of parental leave and other certified medical leave, students must maintain active registration until all program requirements are completed for graduation, including all post-thesis/applied project responsibilities.

Once you register for ENGL/HIST/POLS 611 (Thesis I) you have 12 months to complete* the thesis before having to register for Continuation Status. Therefore if you register in ENGL/HIST/POLS 611 (Thesis I) in the Fall of 2010 you will need to complete your thesis by the end of August 2011 or register for MAIH 695 FE Thesis Continuation Status in September 2011.

*Thesis completion requires that the bound and unbound copies of the thesis, the data, and the electronic copy of the thesis have been submitted to the coordinator, Faculty of Graduate Studies, or the student has formally withdrawn from the program.

Registration and Payment Information for Continuation Status

Continuation Status registration and payment is due at the beginning of each semester when (1) the student is not registered for any course; and (2) the student has not completed the thesis requirements in the allotted time-frame.

Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 semesters:
Continuation Status fee is set at $835.00 per semester and is due on August 6, 2010 for the Fall semester and December 3, 2010 for the Spring semester
Summer 2010 semester: Continuation Status fee is set at $395.00 per semester and is due on April 1, 2010

Please Note: Students are responsible to register and pay for Continuation Status by the end of the first week of each semester (e.g., September, January and May).  If students do not register for Continuation Status by that time, the Office of the Registrar reserves the right to register the student as Continuation Status and the student will be charged a late registration fee of $50.00 over and above the Continuation Fee.

*Students who complete their thesis within the first six weeks of the semester can apply for a partial refund from their Program Administration Office.
