Grading Standards for TWU MAIH

A+: Work in this range is especially perceptive that either makes an original contribution to scholarship or includes exceptional insights. Depending on the discipline, such work might be publishable. A+’s are quite rare in course work.

A: Work in this range is perceptive and provides some original or otherwise significant insights.

A- : Work in this range is acceptable for graduate-level both in respect to the quality of thought and writing and to the research and presentation.

B+: Work in this range is acceptable for graduate-level but has some weaknesses.

B: Work in this range is acceptable for graduate-level for some programs but has some significant weaknesses.

B- : Work in this range is marginally acceptable.

C+: Work in this range is not acceptable for graduate-level.


Potential Implications of grades for MAIH students

(B range): Course grades in this range are acceptable graduate work but more than a few grades in the B range indicate that the student likely would not be accepted into a Ph.D. program.

(A range): Course grades in this range are acceptable for the thesis stream and indicate good promise of being accepted into PhD programs
