The development of the MA in Leadership (Business Stream) in Mandarin program represents a culminating point in the history of the MA in Leadership program to meet the needs of a specialty market. With special approval by the BC Ministry of Advanced Education and Labor Development, the China program specifically serves the business sector within the Chinese cultural context. It is committed to meeting the special learning needs of Chinese business leaders, such as leadership ethics and leading change for the best business performance in a more competitive global business environment. Since the launch of its first English cohort in April 2011, the China program has four cohorts currently in progress.
The MA in Leadership (Business Stream) in Mandarin program for business leaders is a 36-credit hour program that can be completed in 24 months while students continue to work. The program is a partially blended online and face-to-face relational learning experience for adult Chinese learners. The program will make extensive use of online learning venues, with relational, experiential and interactive learning being an important program component. The program emphasizes the application of concepts to organizational leadership practice, and includes assignments geared to practical applications to the student’s work circumstances. Emphasis will also be placed on experiential learning in China and strategic visits to business organization sites in Mainland China, HongKong SAR, and Canada.
The Program focuses on helping middle to senior level leaders or emerging leaders develop excellent primary transformational results-based servant leadership competencies, including ability to integrate well the essential management technology requirements while leading. It aims to enhance organizational performance through students learning to practice effective transformational servant leadership values, principles and competencies. The emphasis is on practice.
During this deeply personal and relationship-based learning experience, students are expected to see how the benefits of the program also impact all other human relationships, including families, communities, etc. Respect for authority and direction is an important leadership principle.
