Kenyan High Commissioner Simon Nabukwesi visited TWU recently, meeting with MA Leadership director Stan Remple and Health Stream Coordinator Kirk Mitchell. Nabukwesi, along with First Secretary George Kinyua, Honorary Consul Imbenzi George (who is a graduate of TWU’s MA Leadership program), and several other Kenyan officials, were looking for strategies to leverage the leadership expertise of TWU’s MA program to help Kenyan Medical Services develop more effective leadership. |
Stan Remple reports that the meetings were “collaborative, results-focused, and productive.” The group collectively concluded that the most effective strategy was to have a number of Kenyan officials complete the MA Leadership program at TWU, while at the same time having TWU provide some targeted leadership development training for Kenyan medical officals. The High Commission delegation also discussed the possibility of TWU providing more comprehensive leadership education programs in Kenya in the future. “We are committed to providing effective leadership training,” declares Remple. “We want to help Kenya prepare its own officials to lead more effectively.”
Nabukwesi’s impression of TWU was very positive. “I am impressed,” he enthused. Everything here is organized and well maintained, and the programs that are offered are very relevant and timely.”
In addition to the meetings with MA Leadership officials, the Kenyan delegation also met with TWU president Dr. Jonathan Raymond who shared the vision for the university, and, Paul Weme, TWU’s Vice President, Strategic Advancement. The Kenyan officials also conversed with Dean of the School of Nursing, Landa Terblanche, Associate Professor Heather Meyerhoff and other TWU officials to highlight the work of TWU’s nursing students in Africa, and to investigate potential partnerships between TWU and Kenya in the areas of teacher training and enrollment opportunities for Kenyan students.
