The M.A. Linguistics degree program is a two-year graduate academic program (39 sem. hrs.) that is strongly oriented towards linguistic field work. It prepares students to analyze and describe the linguistic structures of languages and to put previously unwritten languages into writing. In this respect it differs somewhat from many other M.A. in Linguistics programs, which tend to be less field oriented. Upon graduation, students will be prepared for careers in linguistics and such applied linguistics fields as literacy and translation. They will also be prepared to gain admission into doctoral programs in linguistics.
