Kinesiology

 

One who possesses scientific knowledge of human movement and exercise”. Predominantly based in function, rehabilitation and performance, kinesiologists can work in many different settings as exercise therapists, personal trainers, kinesiologists with companies and government departments and as sport coaches. Many also go onto train as physiotherapists, chiropractors and medical doctors. Students in this stream come from many different backgrounds but have a common interest in the biological basis of human structure, function and performance.

Students who graduate from the Kinesiology Stream are eligible to join the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK) and are prepared to complete certification as fitness leaders in  Weight Training  and Personal Trainers with British Columbia Recreation and Parks. In addition students are prepared to write certification exams with the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and/or Certified Personal Trainer (CPT).

 Within the Kinesiology Stream of the School of Human Kinetics, there is an option for students to specialize in Strength & Conditioning. This specialization is recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as an “approved educational program’- one of only three in Canada.
