Call for Abstracts

We are still accepting Poster Abstracts.

The Trinity Western University School of Nursing is inviting submissions for its 3rd Faith and Nursing Symposium to be held on May 10 – 12th, 2012 at Trinity Western University, Langley, B.C. This international conference will provide a forum to examine the intersections of religion and nursing ethics in pluralistic health care contexts, with keynote speakers, concurrent sessions, and poster presentations. Its vision is to develop nurses’ competence to address ethical matters in the context of religious plurality. Abstracts (200 words) are invited that feature empirical, theoretical, historical, educational or practice-oriented discussion on the intersections of religion, spirituality, ethics, nursing, and plurality.

Oral (paper) presentation. Oral (paper) sessions allow authors to present papers for discussion detailing empirical, theoretical, historical, educational, or practice-oriented perspectives. We welcome abstracts from completed or in-progress scholarly work (including student theses). Oral (paper) sessions involve authors presenting for 20 minutes, with 5 minutes allocated for discussion.

Poster Presentation. A poster presentation allows a presenter to provide a visual summary of their research and/or innovation to be displayed for conference delegates. There will be dedicated time allocated in the conference program for poster viewing by delegates on their own or in a facilitated group. A poster should be self-contained and self-explanatory, allowing different viewers to proceed on their own while the author is free to supplement or discuss particular points raised in enquiry. There will also be an opportunity for posters to be part of a tour hosted by an expert in the field of religion, nursing, and ethics. This type of engagement includes a brief (5 minute) oral presentation from the poster presenter followed by a 5 minute commentary by an expert in the field. This is followed by 15 minutes of facilitated group discussion.

Submission Format

All abstracts, not to exceed 200 words, are to be submitted to Marie.Cochrane@twu.ca. Please indicate your preference for an oral or poster presentation, or no preference. All completed applications received by 12:00 Midnight (Pacific Standard Time) on December 10th, 2011 will be independently and blindly reviewed by the Program Committee. Selection of abstracts for presentation will be based on scholarly merit and relevance to the conference topics.

General Information

If your abstract is accepted for presentation, you will be notified by email of your presentation date and time. This notice is sent to the contact person for each paper or poster presentation. If the presentation has more than one author, the contact person is asked to share the information with the other author(s). All accepted abstracts will be included with the conference materials.
