Educational Learning Communities

The Office of Research and Faculty Development is seeking members to join the second Educational Learning Community at TWU scheduled for September 2009 - March 2010. The topic is pedagogy (the study of methods to teach younger people) and andragogy (the study of methods to create an environment for self-directed learning, usually among mature people).  This topic is relevant to TWU as we seek to meet the needs of diverse students in diverse programs.

ELCs are interdisciplinary groupings of faculty, staff, and students who share a common interest in a university-related question that motivates them to read, think, strategize, and write on the topic for the benefit of themselves and those they serve.  (Last year 18 such people studied spiritual vitality across the university scene with applications for faculty, staff, and students.) In addition, members will share their results with faculty and administrators through appropriate avenues.

We hope you will consider reviewing the proposal posted below, and consider applying to be a member. Your application (see the second form posted below) should make clear why you believe you would make a good team member, a brief description of the project or skills you might contribute to the group, and whether or not you have secured your supervisor's approval to be involved.  (Unfortunately we are unable to secure release time for your involvement.)

Deadline for application submissions is Tuesday, May 26.  The ELC Committee in the Office of Research & Faculty Development will discern successful candidates soon after.
