Fall 2010 Concert Band & Orchestra Concerts
On November 19th and November 26th Trinity Western University’s Concert Band and Orchestra will perform a varied program of music that anticipates the Christmas season to come. The Orchestra will begin with Three Dances from The Nutcracker, before turning to a lesser-known Tchaikovsky work—the folk-infused “Little Russian” Symphony No. 2. In the Concert Band portion of the evening the listener will be invited to contemplate the mystery of the incarnation through Morton Lauridsen’s O Magnum Mysterium. Then the power and majesty of God will be attested to in David Holsinger’s stirring Sinfonia Voci.
Dr. Allan Thorpe, TWU Director of Instrumental Activities, says, "this term we have been exploring a broad range of emotional possibilities in the music we are preparing, emotions which run the gamut from reverent awe to jubilant enthusiasm."
