Direct Loans

Direct Loans are low-interest loans for students and parents to help finance their university education. The lender is the U.S. Department of Education (the Department) rather than a bank or other financial institution.

Please note that if you are applying for a Direct Loan for the Fall semester, you should have all of your application pieces submitted before the end of September.  If you are applying for a Direct Loan for the Spring semester, you should have all of your application pieces submitted before the end of January.

Steps to apply

1) Complete your FAFSA.

  • Our school code is G09486 (or 009486)
  • Your answer on lines 32 and 76 MUST be 'Already Completed' or 'Not Going to File' to produce a valid Student Aid Report.

 2) Complete the Master Promissory Note.

 3) First time borrowers must complete Entrance Counseling.

 4) Complete the statement of Borrowers Loan Certification You should print a copy of this document and scan and email a completed copy to awards@twu.ca or fax it to 604-513-2159.  This document will allow you to select the loan amount that you would like to be certified for.

 5) E-mail us at awards@twu.ca to inform us that you have completed steps #1 through #4.

Eligibility

You are eligible for the Direct Loan if you are an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in at least half-time studies. Please note that you cannot take any online courses, distance education or correspondence courses while receiving Direct Loan funding. Subsidized loans are based on financial need. Unsubsidized loans are available to students who do not qualify for subsidized loans.

Note: If you are a 5th year, PYP (Education) student then you could qualify for a max. of $5,500 in subsidized funds & $7000 in unsubsidized funds.
