Alumni News & Updates

November 2008

Greetings Alumni,

I would like to send out a big "thank you" to those who responded to the "mini-survey" in last months e-letter (please see the results in the Survey section of this E-letter). I would like to strongly encourage all of you to respond to this new section of our e-letters. It only takes a moment, and your responses greatly assist me in getting a feel for the pulse of the alumni.

One of my challenges as Director of Alumni is to know the needs of the alumni, and how to engage them with TWU. The key to this is communication. We are working hard to improve our database so that we can communicate effectively with the alumni as a whole. This falls in line with our vision for the Alumni Relations Department, which is, "To intentionally connect with alumni through various means of communication in an attempt to develop a legacy of relationships, facilitate networks, and celebrate community".

This vision, along with our Mission Statement, can be viewed online at twu.ca/alumni.

A big congratulations goes to our Women's Soccer team who won CIS Gold this weekend. This was the first National Tournament that TWU hosted, and our girls won! Also, our Spartan Men's Soccer team won Silver in their finals in Ottawa. This is a great year for Spartan soccer!

I hope that you will take the time to have a look at our ever-evolving website. We are continually updating the site with exciting news, special offers, and event information that will be of interest to you as an alumnus of Trinity Western University.

Congratulations to Stacy Gregory for correctly answering last month's Trivia question: There were 14 issues of the magazine before the Fall '08 Issue.

This month's Trivia Question: How many people came to the Spirit of Christmas event on the TWU campus last year? Be the 11th alumni to email the answer to alumni@twu.ca

The gender stereotypes that divide male and female into two different types are everywhere - we can't escape them. That's why Trinity Western University is launching a Gender Studies Institute (GSI) - to foster research and discussion on the inescapable question of gender. Researchers involved in TWU's Gender Studies Institute will explore the ways that gender influences the course of our lives. The Associate Professor of Education at Trinity Western University and Co-Director of the Gender Studies Institute, Dr. Allyson Jule, has found that gender differences are apparent even in something as simple as the way that we talk. This marks the third consecutively A+ the Christian liberal arts university has received in this category since 2006. Last Monday evening in Richmond City Hall, Wing Leung of W.T. Leung Architects Inc., made a third presentation to city counsel for a proposed billion dollar complex to be built in the heart of Richmond. After pitching the project using colourful architectural drawings, 3-dimensional models, taking questions from city councilors and the public, Leung watched as a unanimous decision was made for the project to go ahead.

Consisting of five-towers the complex will also feature a 33, 000 square foot community centre and a 22,000 square foot educational space for Trinity Western University. This marks the first extension site into Metro Vancouver for Canada's premier Christian liberal arts university. Read more...
