Zibin Takes Bronze at CI’s
Langley, British Columbia –In only her second season of CIS competition Trinity Western University’s Aleena Zibin led the Spartan Track and Field team with her first medal in CIS National competition. Zibin took the bronze medal in the women’s shot put with a personal best of 13.11 meters. Zibin only trailed University of Saskatchewan gold medallist Megan Reid by .19 meters and Queens’ silver medallist Nicole Clarke by .09 meters.
“We are really happy for Aleena,” said head coach Ian Sharp. “Having a personal best and a bronze medal is great way to end the season.”
On the men’s side the Spartans Justin Beanblossom had a personal best and just missed a bronze medal by less than half a second, finishing fourth in the men’s 600 meters with a time of 1:20.81. Windsor’s Ryan McKenzie took the gold with a time of 1:18.50, Laval’s David Gill took the silver with a time of 1:19.25 and Guelph’s Robin Bourke took the bronze in 1:20.34.
After sitting out three weeks with a hamstring injury Joel Halcro finished 12th in the men’s 300 meter’s with a time of 35.98 seconds. “After sitting out with the injury Joel ran faster then I had anticipated,” said Sharp.
Finishing out the men’s competition was the Spartans’ 4x400 team, which finished 6th with a time of 3:24.23.
