AVIVA ENGLAND ATHLETICS U20/U23 CHAMPIONSHIPS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NUTTALL GOLDEN AT U23 ENGLAND ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS
BEDFORD, England – Trinity Western high jumper and defending CIS gold medalist Emma Nuttall (Edinburgh, Scotland) jumped a personal best 1.86m Saturday, bettering her previous best of 1.83m, as she captured first place at the Aviva England Athletics U23 Championships.
After winning the Aviva England Athletics U20 Championships last year with a jump of 1.82m, Nuttall, who also used a leap of 1.82m to earn this past season’s CIS national championship, moved up an age bracket and, despite just turning 20 this year, was at the top of her class.
Her jump of 1.86m, if cleared at the Canada West championships, would have broken UBC’s Jeannie Cockroft’s 27-year-old conference record of 1.84m.
While Nuttall was jumping in the U23 event, fellow Spartans teammate Hazel Ross (Bishopton, Scotland) was competing in the U20 event in both high jump and hurdles.
Ross won a bronze medal in the high jump with a jump of 1.67m while in the 100m hurdles, she posted a personal best time of 14.35 in the heats on her way to an eighth place finish overall.
Both Nuttall and Ross will return to Trinity Western this fall for their second years of CIS eligibility.
