SPARTANS AT CANADA WEST CHAMPIONSHIPS – DAY 1 RESULTS

WINNIPEG, Manitoba –
The Trinity Western Spartans track team made its return to the Canada West Championships Friday as they competed amongst the best in the conference at the Max Bell Field House at the University of Manitoba.

The Spartans best result was a fifth place finish for the Trinity Western entry in the men’s 4x800m event. The Spartans Andrew Ott, Jason Carwile, Mihai Prajea and Chris Voth teamed up to put together a time of 8:05.61 that bettered both Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Earlier in the day, Prajea had one of the Spartans best individual performances as he finished 11th in the men’s 1000m event in a time of 2:33.85. Voth also raced in the 1000m event and finished 15th in a time of 2:34.65, a season’s best.

Trinity Western’s Gary Cymbaluk finished 19th in the 300m event in a time of 37.38, a season’s best, while Ott completed the 300m race in 37.81 and finished 20th.

On the women’s side Kendra Peters had a strong showing in the 300m race as she finished 11th overall in a time of 41.71 (a season’s best), while Lisa Geck finished 20th in that same event in a time of 46.50 (a season’s best) and Breanne Friesen was 21st with a time of 48.73 (a season’s best).

The Spartans Alison Farkash finished 11th in the women’s 3000m race in a time of 10:56.77 while Marissa Ratzlaff was 12th in the 1000m event with a time of 3:13.21.

The Canada West Championships continue Saturday when the Spartans will look to build upon a successful first day in Manitoba.
