SPARTANS SWEEP BC PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP RACES

ALDERGROVE, British Columbia –
It was a clean sweep for the Trinity Western cross country team at the B.C. Club Championships as Blair Johnston won the junior men’s race and Fiona Benson won the junior women’s race at Aldergrove Lake Park Saturday morning.

With the Spartans only running Johnston in the seven kilometre race and Benson in the five kilometre competition, it was a most productive afternoon for the blue and gold, coming home victorious on all accounts.

Johnston laid down an impressive time as he finished what was a difficult course in 23:38 and was 150 metres clear of the second place finisher.

Benson also had a quality showing as she finished in 19:48 and was more than 100m in front of her next closest competitor.

“It was a really good day for Trinity Western on the cross country trails,” said Spartans coach Laurier Primeau. “I’m really happy with how our athletes performed. They both ran smooth over what was a tough and hilly course and this bodes well for our team as we prepare for the CIS Championships.”

Even Trinity Western endurance coach Mark Bomba got in on the podium-topping action as he won the Over-40 division, finishing the eight kilometre race in 26:52.

The Spartans next race will be the CIS Championships in Laval Nov. 12.
