Early Friday afternoon in the heats, Innes (Bearsden Glasgow, Scotland) ran a personal best time of 8.20 – bettering his previous PB of 8.22, which he achieved twice this year, most recently at the 2012 Canada West championships – but then was even faster in the final, stopping the clock at the 8.19 that earned him fourth place.

In his first season competing at the university level, Innes also earned a gold medal at the conference championships.

On the women’s side, Trinity Western’s Hazel Ross (Bishopton, Scotland), also competing in the 60m hurdles, finished ninth with a heat time of 8.94 but missed out on qualifying for the finals by one tenth of a second.

The first-year Ross was four one-hundredths of a second off of her personal best time and Spartans record of 8.90, which she achieved at this year’s Canada West championships while finishing fourth.

On Saturday, which is the final day of competition at the national championships, Trinity Western’s Fiona Benson will run in the 1500m race and Emma Nuttall will compete in the high jump.

On Thursday, Trinity Western’s Jake Powrie finished fifth in the pentathlon with a personal best and Spartans record 3650 points.
