FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
YEE LEADS SPARTANS AT BC PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
ABBOTSFORD, British Columbia – The No. 8 Trinity Western women’s cross country team and the No. 10 men’s cross country team both put together impressive performances at the 2013 BC Cross Country Championships as the Spartans had six athletes finish in the top five of their respective races Saturday at Clearbrook Park.

The big winner on the day was first-year Regan Yee (South Hazelton, B.C.), who won the junior girls five kilometre race with a time of 17:43.90. Amongst other medal winners for the Spartans were Levi Neufeld (Winnipeg) and Joel de Schiffart (Nanaimo, B.C.), who finished second and third respectively in the junior boys seven kilometre race. Neufeld finished in 21:08.56 while de Schiffart crossed the line in 21:23.67.
In the senior women’s six kilometre event, Alison Jackson (Vermilion, Alta.) also found the podium, earning a bronze medal with a time of 21:15.35. Sarah Inglis (Falkirk, Scotland), who won both of her first two races with TWU this fall, finished fifth in 21:47.45. Declan White (South Surrey, B.C.) was the other Spartan to nab a top five finish as he crossed the line fifth overall in the senior men’s 10 kilometre race with a time of 31:56.26.
“Despite (endurance coach) Mark Bomba putting our team through a heavy volume week, we had some very good results, which says a fair amount about where our team is at,” said Spartans coach Laurier Primeau. “Right now, we are preparing for nationals and we weren’t really gearing up for this event.
“Having said that, it was nice to see Regan run away with her race. And she did that despite falling 30 metres behind the lead after taking a wrong turn. And in the junior boys’ race, it was great to have Levi and Joel finish second and third, while in the men’s race, the guys basically put it in cruise control after eight kilometres, at Bomba’s advice, and still had solid finishes.”
The Spartans used the event as its final preparation for the CIS national championships, which take place Nov. 9 and will be hosted by Western in London, Ont.
