PLAYER OF THE WEEK
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TWU's Brandon Long scores five weekend goals to earn POW honours
BURNABY, British Columbia - Trinity Western University forward Brandon Long has been named the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending February 5th.
Long, who twice this season had posted two-goal games but who had never notched a BCIHL hat trick, went one better by breaking out for four goals in a 6-5 victory over Selkirk College on Friday night.
Long scored twice in a span of 1:43 in the first period to tie the game following an early two-goal deficit. He went on to add a power-play goal in the second frame before striking for the game winner early in the third.
One night later, Long cashed in his fifth goal of the weekend in a home loss to Okanagan College.
The former Aldergrove Kodiaks forward leads all Spartans players in scoring and sits 12th overall on the league charts.
Runners up for this week's award include Simon Fraser University forward Ben Van Lare, Thompson Rivers University forward Jose Reyes and Selkirk College defenceman Justin Sotkowy.
