VILLENEUVE, FREDEMAN EARN BCIHL MONTHLY HONOURS

LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western’s JP Villeneuve (Georgetown, Ont.) was named the BCIHL Rookie of the Month while Spartans goalie Harry Fredeman (Ladner, B.C.) was named the league’s Goaltender of the Month Monday.

Villeneuve earned the rookie honour after leading all Spartans scorers with six points during the month, including one goal and five assists. In his first regular season game, Villeneuve led a TWU comeback with a goal and an assist late in a 4-3 win over TRU. He then picked up four helpers on a four-game homestand that saw TWU finish with a 3-1 record.

Meanwhile, Fredeman began the season in top form for the Spartans, picking up wins in each of his first four starts. He made 31 saves in an opening night win on the road at Thompson Rivers and then allowed just two goals on a combined 110 shots in a home victory over Eastern Washington and a pair of wins over Victoria. Fredeman closed out the month with a 1.15 goals-against average and .966 save-percentage.

Both Spartans also earned weekly honours during the month of October as Villeneuve was named the BCIHL Player of the Week for the week ending on Oct. 7 while Fredeman was the Player of the Week for the week ending on Oct. 27.

The other two monthly awards both went to Simon Fraser, as Jono Ceci was named the Player of the Month and Jared Eng was the Defenceman of the Month.

Ceci was virtually unstoppable during the month of October, collecting three or more points in each of his four regular season appearances. The North Vancouver, B.C. product scored a goal and added a pair of assists in SFU's home opening win over TRU and went on combine for four goals and six assists in a pair of road victories over UVic and a home ice triumph against Selkirk.

An NCAA Division I transfer, Eng has had a hot start to his first BCIHL season. He scored in his regular season debut against TRU and added a goal and two assists the following weekend in Victoria. Overall, the 21-year old picked up five points in four games while providing the Clan with a smooth-skating, puck-moving presence on the blueline.
