SPARTANS RUN WINNING STREAK TO THREE STRAIGHT
VICTORIA – The Trinity Western Spartans men’s hockey team scored three straight goals in the third period to earn a come from behind 4-2 win over the University of Victoria Friday night at the Ian Stewart Complex in Victoria.
The win moves the Spartans to 9-10-1 and gives them three straight wins, while the loss drops Victoria to 11-7-1. TWU now sits four points behind Victoria for fourth place in the BCIHL standings.
“It was a great game the guys really battled,” commented TWU head coach Dwayne Lowdermilk.
TWU’s Robert Vos scored the unassisted game winner at 6:44 of the third period, with the Spartans Trevor Edwards scoring an empty net goal with eight seconds remaining to make the final 4-2.
Victoria’s Steven Little opened the scoring at 2:57 of the first period to give Victoria the 1-0 lead at the end of 20 minutes.
The Spartans Brendan Elenko tied the game at the 14:11 mark of the second period to tie the game at 1-1.
Matthew Bell gave Victoria the early 2-1 third period lead with a goal at 18:33. The Spartans Josh Stephenson scored at 16:00 to tie the game at 2-2.
Trinity Western held the slight edge shots at 28-27. Neither team was successful on the power play with TWU going 0-5, while Victoria went 0-6.
TWU’s JP Chapman made 25 saves to earn the win, while Tim Manuel made 24 saves in the loss.
TWU and Victoria will match up again tomorrow night at the Ian Stewart Complex. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m.
