SPARTANS DROP FINAL GAME OF FALL SEMESTER TO COYOTES
KELOWNA, British Columbia – The Okanagan College Coyotes scored four unanswered goals in the final two periods to defeat the visiting Trinity Western University Spartans 6-2 in BCIHL Friday night in Kelowna, B.C. The loss drops the Spartans to 3-8-2 on the season, while the Coyotes improve to 7-2-2.
The Spartans matched the Coyotes early on, but Okanagan’s Chris Glen was a one man wrecking crew as he was able to score his third goal of the period with four seconds remaining in the first period to give the Coyotes a 3-2 lead going into the first intermission.
TWU came out strong and jumped out to a 1-0 lead off of a Matt Chaput power play goal at 16:30 of the first period, assists went to Brandon Long and Trevor Beaupre. Okanagan tied the game on a power play marker from Glen at 10:31 of the first. Glen got his second of the period at 7:16. TWU’s Beaupre tied the game at 2-2 at 6:02 of the first, with assists to Long and Chaput.
Okanagan made it a two goal lead with a goal less than two minutes in to the second period by Aaron Buat. Brendan Urban made it 5-2 for the Coyotees with a power play goal at 12:51 of the second period.
The Coyotes Kyle L’Arrivee made the final 6-2 with a goal at 17:30 of the third period.
TWU’s Tim Zwiers made 35 saves in the loss, while Okanagan’s Sunny Gill made 38 saves to earn the win.
The Spartans are now off for nearly two months. Their next league game is January 20 when they will host Eastern Washington University. Game time at the Langley Events Centre is set for 7 p.m.
Game Notes: TWU was once again shorthanded as they dressed 14 skaters for the evening match… Okanagan went two for eight on the power play, while TWU went one for 10…
