MEN’S HOCKEY FALLS TO SAIT IN ALBERTA
CALGARY – The Trinity Western men’s hockey team dropped its first of a two-game trip to Alberta, losing 10-2 to the hometown SAIT Trojans of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Friday at SAIT Arena.
Playing in the 24th annual SAIT Trojans Eye Opener Tournament the Spartans were handily beaten as they were introduced to the ACAC with tough lesson.
The Trojans had five different goal-scorers on the night including Mitchell Board and Riley Paterson, who each notched hat tricks, Adam Stuart, who had two goals and Sam Mitchell and J.D. Watt, the latter of which was a fourth round pick (111th overall) in the 2005 NHL Draft, each tallying singles.
The Spartans responded with goals from Brad Bakken and Matt Chaput.
Trinity Western goalie Harry Fredeman made 35 saves in a losing effort while SAIT’s goalie Brayden Hopfe was good on 26 of 28 shots to earn the win.
The Spartans will play the Senior “AAA” men’s team Innisfail Eagles, who were a last-minute replacement for Edmonton’s Grant MacEwan Griffins, Saturday at 2 p.m. The Eagles beat Thompson Rivers 6-2 Friday.
