SPARTANS DROP SECOND IN A ROW TO SELKIRK

CASTLEGAR, British Columbia – For the second game in as many nights, the Trinity Western men’s hockey team lost a four-goal game to Selkirk, this time dropping a 5-1 decision Saturday at the Castlegar Recreation Centre.

The Spartans, who fell 4-0 to Selkirk Friday, saw Trevor Beaupre (New Westminster, B.C.) open the scoring on a power play, but after that it was all Selkirk as the Saints scored five unanswered goals to earn the win.

Trinity Western’s Tim Zwiers (Williams Lake, B.C.) played the first half of the game, allowing three goals, before he was replace by Harry Fredeman (Ladner, B.C.), who gave up two goals.

“They are the defending champions and they had all their horses in the lineup and they played really well tonight,” said Spartans coach Barret Kropf. “We have lots of adjustments to make and we’re definitely not quite there in terms of both on the scoreboard and our level of compete. I think we learned a lot and have lots of things to work on in this next week before the regular season starts.”

The Spartans finish the preseason with a 1-3 record and will now prepare to play Thompson Rivers in their regular season-opener on the road Oct. 4 at 8:30 p.m.
