The Spartans will add Taylor Armstrong (fourth year transfer, Big Stone, Alta.), forward/centre Lance Verhoeff (first year, Calgary), point guard Drew Slaght (first year, Coquitlam, B.C.), guard Daniel Demian (first year, Port Coquitlam, B.C.), small forward/shooting guard James Powell (first year, Lynden, Wash.) and shooting guard/small forward Ryan Frose (first year, Winnipeg, Man.).

The tournament, which raises funds for TWU student-athlete scholarships and the Spartan Athletics’ Complete Champion Approach, was held at the scenic Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club in Coquitlam, British Columbia.

The Spartans battled the Vikes for most of the game but foul trouble and a hot shooting Vikes squad down the stretch proved to be the difference as Victoria takes a 1-0 series lead in the best of three Pacific Division semi final.

Enarson gym. But the Thunderbirds earned their place in the history books as a hard fought 92-83 win gave UBC the perfect conference season at 20-0. The loss drops the Spartans back to 10-10.

That is something that you do not want to do against the number on ranked team in the CIS, who are on a quest to finish the season a perfect 20-0. The cross town rivals made the Spartans pay as the Thunderbirds used a 26-7 start to take down TWU 76-64. The loss drops the Spartans to 10-9, while the win keeps UBC perfect at 19-0.

The 10-7 Spartans needed to set school records for points in a game and longest game to overcome the 3-12 Clan and improve their TWU record setting winning streak to nine games.

Tonight TWU overcame nine point second half deficit to defeat the University of Manitoba Bisons 97-89 Saturday night in Winnipeg.

WINNIPEG - The Trinity Western University men’s basketball team picked the perfect time to get their first road win in nearly two years. The Spartans used a 54 point second half offensive explosion to come from behind to defeat the University of Manitoba 81-67 Friday night in Winnipeg. The victory extends TWU’s winning streak to seven games and puts the Spartans over .500 (8-7) for the first time in two year, while the loss drops the Bisons to 4-9.

LANGLEY, British Columbia - Much to the chagrin of Trinity Western University Head Coach Stan Peters the Spartans’ men’s basketball team is making a habit of using second half rally’s to win games. Tonight’s game against the visiting University of Lethbridge Pronghorns was no different. Trailing 51-46 at the half the Spartans used a 31-10 run at the start of the second half to take control of the game and cruise to a 100-82 win.

But it wasn’t enough as the Spartans used a 29-6 run midway through the second half to come from behind and defeat the Pronghorns 77-70.

Vancouver –TWU’s Michael Brouwer (Nanaimo) scored saved his best for when it counted as the second year post scored six points while adding four rebounds in overtime to help give the Spartans an 84-76 win over the York University Lions Friday afternoon at UBC’s Accent Inn Classic Tournament. The Spartans improved to 1-2 in the tournament by outscoring the Lions (0-3) 14-6 in the five minute overtime frame.

TWU hit 11 three point shots to Alberta’s five, but the Golden Bears shot 25 more foul shots then the Spartans (25-34 to 5-9).

The Spartans stayed with their up-tempo style, but the more experienced T-Birds were able to take advantage of first half errors by the Spartans as UBC built a 20 point half time lead, 58-38, on their way to a 103-86 win.
