LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western University men’s basketball alumni Stephen Janzen and Kyle Kooger paired with current players Trevor Nerdahl and David Bron to form the team “The Chess Club” that won the Vancouver open division of the NBA 3on3 – Ballers Unite tournament held June 17-18 at Simon Fraser University.

Langley, British Columbia – Trinity Western University assistant men’s basketball Head Coach Gene Wolverton today confirmed the addition of six quality additions to the Spartans for the 2006-07 season. The Spartans will add Taylor Armstrong (fourth year transfer, Big Stone, Alta.), forward/centre Lance Verhoeff (first year, Calgary), point guard Drew Slaght (first year, Coquitlam, B.C.), guard Daniel Demian (first year, Port Coquitlam, B.C.), small forward/shooting guard James Powell (first year, Lynden, Wash.) and shooting guard/small forward Ryan Frose (first year, Winnipeg, Man.).

Langley, British Columbia –Trinity Western University raised over $134,000 for students Friday, May 5 at their 12th annual TWU WirelessWave Golf Tournament. The tournament, which raises funds for TWU student-athlete scholarships and the Spartan Athletics’ Complete Champion Approach, was held at the scenic Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club in Coquitlam, British Columbia.

VICTORIA, British Columbia – The Trinity Western University men’s basketball team opened their postseason with a 75-59 loss to the University of Victoria Friday night in Victoria, B.C. The Spartans battled the Vikes for most of the game but foul trouble and a hot shooting Vikes squad down the stretch proved to be the difference as Victoria takes a 1-0 series lead in the best of three Pacific Division semi final.

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western University men’s basketball team did everything they could to halt the number one ranked University of British Columbia’s winning streak at 19 games Saturday night at a packed David E. Enarson gym. But the Thunderbirds earned their place in the history books as a hard fought 92-83 win gave UBC the perfect conference season at 20-0. The loss drops the Spartans back to 10-10.

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western University men’s basketball team were slow getting out of gates Thursday night against the University of British Columbia. That is something that you do not want to do against the number on ranked team in the CIS, who are on a quest to finish the season a perfect 20-0. The cross town rivals made the Spartans pay as the Thunderbirds used a 26-7 start to take down TWU 76-64. The loss drops the Spartans to 10-9, while the win keeps UBC perfect at 19-0.

BURNABY, British Columbia - The Trinity Western University men’s basketball team saw their nine game winning streak come to a halt Friday night on Burnaby Mountain. The Spartans made a valiant comeback effort but they fell short as TWU (10-8) dropped the contest 77-74 to the Simon Fraser University Clan (4-12).

BURNABY, British Columbia – Guard Luke Robinson (Ahousat) had a TWU career best 28 points as the Trinity Western University men’s basketball team outlasted Simon Fraser University 104-102 in double overtime Thursday night in Burnaby, B.C. The 10-7 Spartans needed to set school records for points in a game and longest game to overcome the 3-12 Clan and improve their TWU record setting winning streak to nine games.

WINNIPEG – The up-tempo style of the Trinity Western University men’s basketball team continues to pay dividends as the Spartans once again were able to come-from-behind to earn the win. Tonight TWU overcame nine point second half deficit to defeat the University of Manitoba Bisons 97-89 Saturday night in Winnipeg.

WINNIPEG - The Trinity Western University men’s basketball team picked the perfect time to get their first road win in nearly two years. The Spartans used a 54 point second half offensive explosion to come from behind to defeat the University of Manitoba 81-67 Friday night in Winnipeg. The victory extends TWU’s winning streak to seven games and puts the Spartans over .500 (8-7) for the first time in two year, while the loss drops the Bisons to 4-9.

LANGLEY, British Columbia - Much to the chagrin of Trinity Western University Head Coach Stan Peters the Spartans’ men’s basketball team is making a habit of using second half rally’s to win games. Tonight’s game against the visiting University of Lethbridge Pronghorns was no different. Trailing 51-46 at the half the Spartans used a 31-10 run at the start of the second half to take control of the game and cruise to a 100-82 win.

LANGLEY, British Columbia - The Trinity Western University men’s basketball team were down but not out Friday night against the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns. The visitors from Alberta started the game with an 11-0 run as they built a 17 point first half lead. But it wasn’t enough as the Spartans used a 29-6 run midway through the second half to come from behind and defeat the Pronghorns 77-70.

LANGLEY, British Columbia - Luke Robinson banked a twelve foot runner with six seconds remaining to give Trinity Western a 63-62 win over the sixth ranked University of Victoria Saturday night at TWU. The win extends the Spartans conference win streak to four games and improves their record to 5-7. The loss drops the Vikes to 8-3.

Vancouver –TWU’s Michael Brouwer (Nanaimo) scored saved his best for when it counted as the second year post scored six points while adding four rebounds in overtime to help give the Spartans an 84-76 win over the York University Lions Friday afternoon at UBC’s Accent Inn Classic Tournament. The Spartans improved to 1-2 in the tournament by outscoring the Lions (0-3) 14-6 in the five minute overtime frame.

VANCOUVER –Paul Kovacs played the hero for the Voyageurs as Laurentian University defeated the Trinity Western University Spartans 75-74 Thursday night at UBC’s Accent Inn Classic Tournament. The first year guard from Barrie, ON hit a three point basket with three seconds remaining to thwart the Spartans comeback bid.

VANCOUVER – A five minute stretch midway through the first half proved to be the difference in the Spartans opening game at UBC’s Accent Inn Holiday Classic. A 16 point first half deficit to the fourth ranked University of Ottawa Gee Gees was too much to overcome as Trinity Western lost 75-65 Wednesday afternoon at UBC.

LANGLEY, British Columbia - The Trinity Western University men’s basketball team used a 23-9 run midway through the second half to blow open their game against the visiting University of Alberta Saturday night at TWU. Guard Luke Robinson (3rd yr, Ahousat) led the Spartans with 19 points as TWU improved to 2-7 with the 89-80 win. The loss drops Alberta to 6-4.
Nov 25 Golden Bears Squeak Past Spartans

LANGLEY, British Columbia - The Trinity Western University men’s basketball team controlled the outside of the court against the visiting University of Alberta Friday night at TWU. But the inside was where the game belonged to the Golden Bears as Alberta knocked off the home team 78-76. TWU hit 11 three point shots to Alberta’s five, but the Golden Bears shot 25 more foul shots then the Spartans (25-34 to 5-9).

KAMLOOPS, British Columbia - The Trinity Western University fell 95-93 in overtime to the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Sunday afternoon in Kamloops, BC. The foul filled game saw the two teams combine for 106 foul shots, while receiving 77 personal fouls.

The Spartans, who have been on a three week road trip, improved their record to 1-5 while the loss drops SFU to 2-2.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia –Trinity Western University brought their young “run and guns” men’s basketball team into the University of British Columbia’s War Memorial stadium to open Canada West play against the top ranked Thunderbirds Saturday night. The Spartans stayed with their up-tempo style, but the more experienced T-Birds were able to take advantage of first half errors by the Spartans as UBC built a 20 point half time lead, 58-38, on their way to a 103-86 win.

The second year guard went-off for a career best 22 points, nine rebounds to lead the Spartans to a 98-89 victory over the University College of the Fraser Valley Cascades Saturday night at TWU’s Langley campus.
