FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SPARTANS KNOCK OFF BC TITANS IN PRE-SEASON CONTEST
LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western Spartans men’s basketball team took to the floor for the first time in the 2010-11 campaign against the BC Titans of the IBL (International Basketball League) Thursday night and came away with a 94-69 victory at the Langley Events Centre.
The Spartans spread the ball around all night as they had six players hit double digits in points with forward Jacob Doerksen (5th year, Abbotsford, B.C.) leading the way with 18 points. Tonner Jackson (2nd year, Surrey, B.C.) was impressive on the glass as he had a game high 12 rebound.
Spartans coach Scott Allen, who coached the Titans during the summer, rolled through his lineup as nine different players saw substantial minutes.
For the Titans, who were rather short-staffed with only with eight players dressed, it was Clayton Crelling – a Douglas College alumnus – leading the way with 20 points.
The Spartans next game will see them play the NCAA Div. 1 Minnesota Golden Gophers – a team that has been to the last two NCAA tournaments – Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Langley Events Centre.
