SPARTANS ADD LAKELAND COLLEGE POINT GUARD
LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western University men’s basketball team bolstered its backcourt Wednesday with the signing of Lakeland College (Lloydminster, Alta.) transfer Justin Bakuteka (Toronto, Ont.).
Playing for Lakeland out of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference in 2010-11, the 6-foot guard averaged 9.6 points per game in his first year out of high school as he helped his team to a 17-3 regular season record and a fourth place finish in the playoffs. Bakuteka was also named Lakeland’s Rookie of the Year.
“Justin will help fill the point guard position and give us an extra gear on the floor,” said Trinity Western coach Scott Allen. “He is quick and will allow us to be more of a perimeter based team. As an athlete, Justin will excel and be able to play the whole court defensively and offensively.”
Bakuteka led his high school, Martingrove Collegiate Institute in Etobicoke, Ont. to a OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations) “AAA” Championship in 2010 and in the process led the tournament in scoring with 94 points in the five game tournament.
Bakuteka plans to study marketing at Trinity Western.
