TWU Spartans (83) at the University of Manitoba Bisons (65)
Spartans Fly Home with Split
Winnipeg, Manitoba - The Trinity Western University men's basketball team managed to make up for last night's loss with an 83-65 win over the University of Manitoba Bisons in tonight's game.
Unlike yesterday, the Spartans came out strong and by 10 minutes into the first half, were up by 10 points. Both teams rallied back and forth but the Spartans managed to sustain at least a 10 point lead throughout the half. By the end of the half the Spartans were up 44-30. "
Coach Stan Peters comments on the game," We made a couple of defensive adjustments and as a result we won the game. Our goal this weekend was to get a split and we were able to do that by coming out the second night and taking it at them."
5th year Center Malcolm Campbell (Abbotsford, BC) had a fantastic game all around leading both teams in points and rebounds with 25 and 9 respectively. 4th year Guard Josh Hall (Abbotsford, BC) also contributed to the Spartan's win with 16 points.
"The big key for us was not allowing middle penetration on defence and not allowing the high post entry pass. We took those options away and really frustrated the Bisons," Peters comments.
Top players for the Bisons were 4th year Forward Paul Fust (Portage, MB) with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 2nd year Forward John Penner (Winnipeg, MB) with 11 points and 7 rebounds.
The team played well all around. TWU out rebounded the Bisons 40-27, which was absolutely critical. It was a hard played game for both teams, but the Spartans emerged with the win with a score of 83-65
"This was a really exciting victory and this early in the season it is significant for us," remarks Peters.
Next up for the Spartans is Friday, November 3rd against the Simon Fraser University Clansmen at 8:00 PM at the SFU gym.
