TWU Spartans (68) at the University of Alberta Golden Bears (86)
Strong First Half Not Strong Enough
Edmonton, Alberta - The Trinity Western University's men's basketball team did what they didn't in their game yesterday against the University of Alberta Golden Bears - they started strong in the first half. But, this intensity was not enough to defeat the Bears and the Spartans ended up with a loss with a score of 86-68.
"We played great putting ourselves in a good position. We led the half until the last 5 minutes and the Bears took it 36-34 at the half," remarks coach Peters.
However, the Bears came out different in the second half. "They shifted their defence and we didn't adjust very well," says Peters. "They pressed us the whole second half and we didn't attack it as well as we could have." The game came down to post play and the Bears outscored the Spartans in the post 30-9. That's what won the game.
Josh Hall (4th year Guard, Abbotsford, BC) had an outstanding performance for the Spartans. Hall led both teams with 26 points, 8 assists, 2 rebounds and 4 steals.
The Bears were led by Nick Maglisceau (5th year Post, Edmonton, AB) with 16 points, 4 rebounds and Clayton Pottinger (5th year Guard, Edmonton, AB) with 16 points.
"Overall we learned some great things. We focused on developing team ego. We know that in order to be successful we have to play team ball and for the most part that happened today. We took a step forward," says Peters.
The next game for the Spartans is Friday, November 17 against the University of Winnipeg. Game time is at 8:00 at Trinity Western University.
