TWU Spartans (45) at the University of British Columbia (55)
Vancouver, British Columbia - The Trinity Western University men's basketball team never got their offense in gear in Friday night's 55-45 loss to the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds.
The Spartans played a solid defensive game, but they struggled the entire night at the offensive end of the floor.
"We had a strong game of team defense, but we couldn't get it going offensively," said TWU head coach Stan Peters. "It's a tough loss, but the guys are motivated to come out strong tomorrow."
The game was up for grabs at the end of the half, with the Thunderbirds holding a slim 2 point, 30-28 lead. But, the second half was all UBC. The Thunderbirds mixed up their defenses and kept the Spartans off balance the entire 20 minutes. The Spartans could only manage 4 field goals while shooting 14%, 4-27 in the second half.
The victory improves the Thunderbirds to 5-8, while dropping Trinity Western to 6-7.
(UBC) Ben Sansburn 15 points, 9 rebounds and Courtney Kolla 9 points, 5 assists.
(TWU) Malcolm Campbell (5th yr, C, Abbotsford, BC) 12 points, 14 rebounds and Tyler Coston (2nd yr, G, Blaine, WA) 12 points, 3 rebounds.
The last time the Spartans scored fewer points in a game was January 5, 1982 when the Spartans lost 48-35 against Seattle University.
The two teams play again Saturday night at the University of British Columbia. Game time is set for 8:00 PM.
