TWU Spartans (60) at University of Victoria Vikes (82)
Tonight, Vikes are Better
Langley, British Columbia - VanderMulen shines in disappointing 82-60 Spartan loss to the University of Victoria Vikes in Friday night's mens basketball game.
The visiting Spartans fell behind quickly after the Vikes went on an 18-4 tear early in the game and could never make up this deficit. The Spartans fought to get back into the game but found the lead to much to overcome.
Despite the disappointing team performance, the Spartans can garner a glimmer of hope in the continued progress of 1st year post player, Andy VanderMulen (1st yr., post, Bellingham, WA). VanderMulen scored 12 points on the night and ripped down 9 boards.
"Andy played an outstanding game tonight even though as a team we struggled to get anything going. Andy is really coming along," said TWU head coach Stan Peters.
Leading the Spartans in scoring tonight was Brian Redekop (2nd yr., forward/post, Abbotsford, BC) with 18 points. While the Vike's Keith Bustard led all scorers with 25 points.
The loss dropped the Spartans record to 1-2, and improved the Vikes record to 1-2. The Spartans give it a go again tomorrow at 8:30 p.m.
