TWU Spartans (63) at University of Alberta Golden Bears (88)
Spartan Shows Leadership in Loss
EDMONTON - In Edmonton tonight, the Trinity Western University's men's basketball team lost to the #1 team in the country, University of Alberta Golden Bears, 88-63.
The Spartans were unable to handle the rebounding strength of the Golden Bears. On the power of 23 offensive rebounds, the Golden Bears dominated the inside game against the Spartans.
It was a long night for TWU as they fell behind 45-22 at the half.
Despite the lopsided outcome, 3rd year guard Dave Martens (Abbotsford, BC) stood out for the Spartans. "Dave's leadership was outstanding throughout the game." Though down and most likely out, Martens kept the team focused at doing the best they could with each possession.
Tyler Costen (3rd yr, guard, Blaine, WA) led Trinity Western in both scoring and rebounding with 17 points and 8 boards.Ryan Jobs (3rd yr, forward/post, North Vancouver, BC) followed with 11 points.
Robbie Valpreda and Stephen Parker led Alberta in scoring with 17 points, with Valpreda also having 8 rebounds.
The two teams will face each other again tomorrow at 8 p.m.
