TWU Spartans (94) at the University of Manitoba Bisons (61)
Bisons Run Into Spartan Wall
Langley, British Columbia - Tonight the TWU Spartans' men's basketball team completely dominated the University of Manitoba Bisons, opening the New Year with a 94-61 win on the road.
Once again the Spartans had a balanced offensive attack, with four players in double figures: Logan Kitteringham (16 pts), Jon Lundgren (23), David Martens (13) and Adam Friesen (15). Steve Janzen and Dan Young also contributed 9 points each.
TWU shot a scorching 56.3% from 3-point land, including 57.1% in the first and 55.6% in the second. That 57.1% in the first half, along with 50% from the field, gave the Spartans a 16-point lead (51-35) at the break.
Their offense cooled a bit in the second half, shooting only 37.2% from the field, but they still managed to outscore Manitoba 43-26.
Either the Spartan defense was especially nimble tonight or the Bison offense was just downright sloppy...or maybe it was a bit of both, as the Spartans had 14 steals (to Manitoba's 5) and the Bisons had 23 turnovers (to TWU's 10).
Trinity Western plays on the road at Manitoba again tomorrow night, Saturday, January 4th.
Game Notes: In 18 minutes Kitteringham managed 16 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals...Manitoba's Chris Hildebrand led the Bisons with 14 points and 9 rebounds (but 6 turnovers)...tonight's win was the sixth time this season that the Spartans have won by more than 20 points...the TWU men broke two school records tonight, in field goals attempted (83; previously 72) and 3-pt % (56.3%; previously 50%)...
