TWU Spartans (78) vs. the Western Washington University Vikings (74)

SPARTANS TOP NCAA VIKINGS IN NON-CONFERENCE MATCH-UP
WHITEROCK, British Columbia - The Trinity Western University men's basketball team clipped the NCAA Div. II Western Washington University Vikings 78-74 in a non-conference contest Thursday evening at Whiterock Christian Academy in Whiterock, B.C.
"We had a much better team effort tonight - everybody was a factor and everybody contributed," commented TWU head coach Scott Allen. "We also did a much better job of passing the ball and playing under control on offense and on defense we did a good job of limiting their perimeter players."
The Spartans were led by the game-high 17 points of Jamie Vaughan (Chilliwack, B.C.). Brian Banman (Kelowna, B.C.) added 15 points while Jacob Doerksen (Abbotsford, B.C.) added 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Western, which led 38-34 at halftime was led by Ira Graham with 16 points. Steve Alford added 14 points on 6-of-9 field-goal shooting. Morris Anderson had nine points and 10 rebounds and Dave Vanderjagt had eight points and nine rebounds.
The Vikings shot just 35.2 percent (25-of-71) from the field and 60.0 (18-of-30) at the free throw line. They had a 48-45 advantage in rebounds with 17 offensive boards.
Trinity Western shot 41.3 percent (26-of-63) from the floor and 66.7 percent (20-of-30) at the line.
The Spartans will now travel to Kamloops, B.C. to take on the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack in a Canada West conference game on Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
