Alberta keeps TWU winless in last three starts

EDMONTON, Alberta – The Trinity Western University men’s soccer team will look to Sunday’s match in Saskatoon, SK to return to the win column after they fell 2-1 Saturday afternoon to the University of Alberta Golden Bears.

Alberta’s Mark Korthuis scored twice, 13th and 49th minute to pace the home team, while TWU midfielder Justin Cordick’s (3rd yr, Anmore, BC) goal in the 49th minute was the lone goal for the Spartans.

TWU keeper Chris Cecil (5th yr, Abbotsford, BC) made three saves and played the full 90 minutes for the Spartans, while Devon Fraser played the full match for the Golden Bears.

The win moves the Bears (5-4-1) into third place, three points ahead of the Spartans (3-2-4).

The Spartans will now travel overnight to the University of Saskatchewan, where they will match up with the Huskies for a 2:15 pm match.

The Spartans are guaranteed a post season berth as hosts of the Canada West men’s soccer championships, which will be held Fri. Nov. 5 and Sat. Nov. 6 at TWU’s Langley, BC campus. The current Canada West standings have UBC in first place, Calgary in second place, Alberta in third place and TWU in fourth place
